new andy stattmiller pieces

Painter/illustrator Andy Stattmiller dropped off these yummy little pieces of art to snack on. True classics, the pretzel and cupcake have been a staple of the munchie universe for several generations so it's only right they be immortalized on canvas.

These acrylic paintings are 6in. x 4in. and 4in. square; and cost only US$ 65 and US$ 50, which is what we may soon be paying for the edible version. Might as well have a picture, then -- it'll last longer.

new grant gilliland pieces

Grant Gilliland the Sharpie master strikes again with these two fun 11.5in. x 12.5in. pieces called "Creep Run" and "Pup Pouch". A true illustrator, his funky style translates just as well in black and white as in his psychedelic color schemes.

Priced at US$ 150, these works of art also have a special signature piece in the back so you get more bang for your buck, not to mention enough Sharpie fumes to get you through the day. Email us for larger images or to purchase.

mark your calendars! fabric8 arty party season

Here in San Francisco's Mission District, we love nothing more than art, sunshine, and a good party. So when all three elements converge, we feel an obligation to party arty! We started it off last month with David Choong Lee + friends ... here are the next three afternoon events we have planned. Mark your calendars!

Sunday, May 25:: Carnival Parade and Similak Chyld's Birthday Party Come celebrate the Mission District's very own holiday and the birthday of fabric8's Employee of the Year with an afternoon of Latin treats. Get your groove on while perusing new works by Ursula Young, Grant Gilliland, Mildred, Matt Linares, Dan Fleres, and more. Check out the fun parade, too!

DJs will be Romanowski (Trouser Trout), Tom Thump (Loose Joints), Vanka (Misturada), Tee Cardacci (Funky Dots), Similak Chyld (fabric8/FTC), and more.

Sunday, June 22:: Live Painting and Mission Statement Block Party Our friends at the new Mission Statement boutique and co-op on 18th/Lexington celebrate their opening with an afternoon block party featuring fashion, art, and music so we're joining in the fun with another outdoor event to coincide. More details soon.

Sunday, July 27:: Mission Vinyl Our third annual record sale and BBQ is in the works, featuring vinyl gems for sale by San Francisco's top veteran DJs, who will be playing the records they're selling. Another huge joint painting collaboration is in order as well!

art after-party @ the funkside/nickie's

If you're going to Mental and Material Realms @ Bucheon, Extensions @ Madusalon, and/or Savage Whiskers @ Fecal Face, stop by The Funkside @ Nickie's in the Lower Haight for a nightcap. San Francisco legend Toph One hosts his weekly party there and DJ Daz from Umoja Soundsystem (LA) joins him for an evening of smokin' tunes on yet another beautiful night. Just say "Long Choong Silver" at the door and you're good as gold.

don't be a weenis by mildred

Mildred dropped by this recent painting and it is quite the masterpiece! Highly textural and colorfully playful, it's a nice representation of the many ways in which Mildred is evolving as an artist.

"Don't Be A Weenis" measures 24in. x 20in. and is incredibly well-priced at US$ 450 including the cool vintage frame. Email us for larger photos or to purchase.

even more ursula young pieces

Ursula Young seems to stop by fabric8 with new pieces every time she visits from Grass Valley, and this past weekend was no exception. We were graced with several opera-inspired pieces including the "Marriage of Figaro" (9in. x 9in., top image), a framed pen-and-ink drawing priced at US$ 190.

The three smaller paintings, titled "Blue Salome", "Valkyrie in Sepia", and "Figaro in Purple" have already gone to the Judy Lee Collection. Get 'em while you can.

oddities & orchestras @ upper playground

If you're a fan of Brian Barneclo and Romanowski -- and we know you are -- stop by Fifty24SF aka the Upper Playground Gallery in the Lower Haight SF for their three-man show with up-and-comer DIA, opening tonight @ 7pm.

Romanowski will undoubtedly blow your mind with his exceptional noodling skills of spray paint, collage, and crafty artistry. He has reportedly cut himself 9 times; gotten 6 metal and 5 wood splinters; inhaled tons of sawdust, fumes, and vapors; and pinched, jabbed, and burned his hands a dozen times -- all for the sake of beauteous art that you can covet, and even own.

Accordingly Brian Barneclo has suffered for his art, and not just to keep up with Romanowski's antics. He's pushed his creative limits and, in addition to his always impressive paintings, come up with something entirely unprecedented from his skilled hands -- amazing sculptures! You have to see it to believe it, so feast your eyes this evening. See you there!

fabric8 stickers

Hot (and sticky) off the presses are the brand-new fabric8 stickers, designed with the help of artist Phoneticontrol. These are the first adhesives we've put out in a good long while, ever since our friends at Blasthaus published Phazer, that fun, free mini-mag highlighting all the SF happenings. This was before the days of Free Magazine, TODO, and Unscene ... but that's another story for another time.

These stickers were produced in a limited run, and the very first in a forthcoming series, so email us for a few or come get yours @ fabric8.
